Only Jerks Perform at SeaWorld

First of all, can we just point out that SeaWorld Orlando’s „Seven Seas Food Festival“ is serving different kinds of sea animals, such as fish, shrimp, and lobsters, for lunch … that’s like a dog show serving poodle burgers. Not only is it cruel, it’s also really weird and we don’t get it.
Since this is such a terrible idea for an event and because SeaWorld sucks so badly, it makes sense that the abusement park has to try REALLY hard to attract visitors by hiring entertainers to put on music and comedy performances.
What doesn’t make any sense is why anyone would actually agree to perform at a festival hosted by a company that confines complex, emotional, and social orcas to barren concrete tanks 24/7—sometimes alone and sometimes with incompatible orcas—depriving them of everything that’s natural and important to them.
Seven marine mammals recently died at SeaWorld, including a 3-month-old baby orca named Kyara, her grandmother Kassatka, and her grandfather Tilikum, who was featured in Blackfish.
On top of all the deprivation and death, investors filed a class-action lawsuit against the company. And it’s also being investigated for criminal fraud. Yikes.
Compassionate artists and bands—such as Barenaked Ladies, Martina McBride, Willie Nelson, and Trisha Yearwood—have all canceled their performances at the marine hellhole. But Bachman & Turner, Daughtry, El Gran Combo de Puerto Rico, Eli Young Band, Hanson, Huey Lewis and the News, The Jacksons, Larry the Cable Guy, Lifehouse, and Chris Young are still set to participate.
Supporting SeaWorld means supporting forcing highly intelligent orcas to live in concrete tanks that are, to them, the size of a bathtub. Why would anyone want to endorse animal abuse publicly?
Tell these celebs to use their fame for good—not evil—by canceling their appearances at the park and telling their fans to stay far away from it.

SeaWorld currently faces a class-action lawsuit by investors and a criminal fraud investigation, and in the past year has seen the deaths of seven marine mammals, including 3-month-old orca Kyara, her grandmother Kasatka, and her grandfather Tilikum, the orca featured in Blackfish. The abusement park is desperately trying to tempt people to visit with music and comedy performances at this food festival.
Even though compassionate artists and dozens of other bands—such as Willie Nelson, Cheap Trick, REO Speedwagon, Trisha Yearwood, Martina McBride, Barenaked Ladies, and 38 Special—canceled their performances at the abusement park, Bachman and Turner, Larry the Cable Guy, Jacksons, Huey Lewis & the News, Chris Young, Daughtry, Eli Young Band and El Gran Combo are still set to participate, which will lead their fans to support a company that forces highly intelligent orcas to perform confusing tricks and live in concrete tanks that are, to them, the size of a bathtub.
Entertainers listen to their fans, so please ask these performers to cancel their appearances at SeaWorld.

The Thomas Cook Group—an international travel company based in the United Kingdom—continues to sell tickets to SeaWorld, despite being fully aware of the company’s cruel treatment of animals for profit.
The travel group has publicly pointed to its animal-welfare policy as being an acceptable benchmark for the treatment of captive animals. But at SeaWorld, orcas live in cramped, concrete tanks and are deprived of everything that’s natural and important to them. With no physical, mental, or emotional stimulation, they spend their days swimming in endless circles.
Since the release of the critically acclaimed documentary Blackfish, which exposed SeaWorld’s record of animal mistreatment to the public, people around the world have united against the park. Dozens of companies have severed ties with it, and celebrities—including Nick Cannon, James Cromwell, and Noah Cyrus—have spoken out against it. The company has lost hundreds of thousands of visitors and laid off nearly a thousand employees. At least 40 orcas have died at its parks, including three in 2017. And SeaWorld will keep sinking until it acknowledges that people don’t want to see animals swimming in endless circles in concrete tanks.
It’s time for Thomas Cook to follow in the footsteps of numerous other travel providers—including STA Travel and Virgin America—and sever ties with this marine abusement park.

I’m writing to request that the Thomas Cook Group cease all direct and indirect sales of tickets to SeaWorld.
Orcas are extremely sensitive, emotional, and complex animals. In the wild, they travel up to 140 miles per day in close-knit groups, and in some populations, offspring stay with their mothers for life. The orcas at SeaWorld are driven insane by the frustration of being confined to tiny concrete tanks where they’re unable to swim or move freely or dive to any meaningful depth. They wear their teeth down to nubs and often break them as they chew on the sides and gates of the tanks, and some even smash their heads against the tank bottoms.

Following a year that saw SeaWorld slapped with a class-action lawsuit by investors and a criminal fraud investigation, as well as the deaths of seven marine mammals there, the abusement park is desperately trying to tempt Christians with a musical festival called Praise Wave.
Even though top singers—such as Trace Adkins, Martina McBride, and Willie Nelson—have joined dozens of other performers in canceling performances at the failing theme park, musicians Steven Curtis Chapman, Lecrae, and MercyMe are set to perform there, encouraging unknowing Christians to support a company that forces highly intelligent orcas to perform tricks in concrete tanks that, to them, are the equivalent of the size of bathtubs for humans.
Musicians listen to their fans, so we need your help to let them know that it’s wrong to support a company that deprives complex, emotional, and social orcas of everything that’s natural and important to them.

Putting animals in tanks is the same thing as putting humans in jail cells. The only difference is that animals don’t actually break laws, and the ones at SeaWorld are all guaranteed life sentences.
It should be obvious to everyone that confining animals for their entire lives is wrong, but the Thomas Cook Group—an international travel company based in the United Kingdom—doesn’t seem to understand and continues to sell tickets to SeaWorld.

Adventure Student Travel—a company that helps coordinate trips for students—still promotes SeaWorld and the Miami Seaquarium as great places for students, Girl Scouts, and other groups to go, despite hearing from PETA and more than 110,000 supporters that the orcas are confined to barren concrete tanks where they’re deprived of almost everything natural and important to them.
Instead of exploring and traveling up to 140 miles per day with their pods, as they would in the ocean, the orcas at marine abusement parks are forced to live in tiny tanks, where they may float listlessly or gnaw on the gates until their teeth are destroyed.
Lolita spends her life in the smallest orca tank in the world at the Miami Seaquarium. She hasn’t seen another orca in more than 37 years, since her tankmate Hugo rammed his head into the side of the tank until he died.
Three orcas died at SeaWorld’s park this year alone: Tilikum, who was 35; Kasatka, who was about 40; and their granddaughter Kyara, who was only 3 months old—bringing the death toll of orcas at SeaWorld to at least 40, and not one of them even made it close to the maximum lifespan of orcas in nature.
Does this sound like an adventure for students to you? Because we think it sounds really sad.
Tell Adventure Student Travel that watching captive animals languish in tiny concrete tanks is not educational—and ask it to cut ties with SeaWorld and the Miami Seaquarium!

Disturbing Pattern in Captivity
Thirty-eight orcas and at least 58 belugas have died on SeaWorld’s watch, along with more than a hundred dolphins. Reports indicate that another dolphin at SeaWorld San Antonio named Betty is currently being treated for a possible infection.
Though SeaWorld’s website claims that “there are no apparent connections” between the recent deaths at its San Antonio facility, the high number of premature and unusual deaths there and at the other SeaWorld locations points to a serious common denominator: captivity.

Unna, an 18-year-old orca imprisoned at SeaWorld San Antonio, died after prolonged suffering caused by the fungal infection candida. She was the 38th orca held by SeaWorld to die far short of her maximum life expectancy, which can be more than 100 years for female orcas in the wild. Her “life” in captivity consisted of being taken away from her mother just before her sixth birthday, being impregnated when she was only 8 years old, giving birth to a stillborn calf, and being so deprived of enrichment and opportunities to engage in natural behavior that she obsessively picked at the paint on the bottom of SeaWorld’s show-pool floor until her face became badly injured.
Telemundo Supports SeaWorld, Despite Animals‘ Deaths …

PETA told Telemundo that marine mammals are suffering and dying at SeaWorld, such as three orcas who died just this year, including Kyara—who was only 3 months old—and her grandmother, Kasatka, who was euthanized earlier this month.
Despite knowing that animals are suffering and dying at SeaWorld, Telemundo gave away free tickets to the marine park, took celebs there, and just promoted it as a family-friendly amusement park on its morning show, Un Nuevo Día.
Telemundo should be telling the world the real story: animals at SeaWorld are continuing to die.
