What you can do for Lasah today

Dear supporter,

Their Turn, an American animal rights organisation recently organised an amazing protest for Lasah outside the Malaysian consulate in New York City. The consulate knew the protest was coming, and it closed earlier than usual, which means authorities are paying attention to this campaign for Lasah, thanks to you. We did inform you about this protest in previous updates. Photos and video of the protest [thanks to Their Turn] are in the link below:

We urgently need more help, will you please consider a donation? Your donation will help us keep up our fight for Lasah, including for investigations and public awareness materials/campaigns. Small or big, every dollar counts. Click on the link below to donate [look at the right side of the page].

Over here in Malaysia we too of course are working hard on freeing Lasah and we will bring you more updates as our efforts progresses. In the meantime we are raising awareness publicly and we still welcome those who live in Malaysia to join us to campaign for Lasah. Non-Malaysians welcome too. We have materials for you to use and disseminate.

More updates to come. Thank you for fighting for Lasah alongside us. Like you, we’ll never give up.

11. Okt. 2017 — Dear supporter,

Thanks to your tweets HotelsdotCom/Expedia have taken down their page promoting Lasah elephant rides. It worked after more than 694 of you tweeted, and that was what made the difference. Just one tweet [by us] wasn’t going to help. Thank you.

Today the Brigitte Bardot Foundation [FBB] wrote to the environment minister of Malaysia asking for Lasah’s freedom. Their letter was signed off by Ms. Bardot herself. Ms. Bardot and FBB now joins other respected groups and individuals such as Animals Asia, Change for Animals and elephant conservationist Carol Buckley in asking for Lasah’s freedom.

From our investigation we also recently also received information that Lasah was taken out of his forest home [we do not know why] when he was a baby. This means he was separated from his mother and herd only to suffer till this day in captivity, this time at the hands of a business called Langkawi Elephant Adventures [LEA]. Langkawi is a holiday island in Malaysia.

We have also been informed that lasah’s chained has been lengthened [he is chained when LEA is closed, i.e., not used for rides, etc] and he is now limited to five elephants rides a day. Though this minor change is better than zero improvements, it still doesn’t alleviate Lasah’s daily suffering and we will continue to ask for his transfer to the elephant sanctuary here.

To those who are living in or near New York City, there will be a protest tomorrow for Lasah. More information at link below [please share it too]:

We are currently in need of more volunteers for this campaign. You need to be based in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Non-Malaysians welcome. Our email is infoATfotomalaysia.org

It’s all about keeping the campaign going, the protests, letters, emails, etc to urge the government to transfer Lasah. Find out what more you can do:

Please also consider a donation to FOTO Malaysia today to help us with this campaign. You may do so from the same link above.

Thank you for your kind support.

8. Okt. 2017 — Dear friends of Lasah,

Thank you for helping us reach 50,000 signatures! It is supporter power which will #FreeLasah from his daily life of misery.

We’d like to inform supporters based in or near New York City that on October 12, Thursday, NYC based animal rights activist Donny Moss of Their Turn will organise a protest for Lasah. For more details please visit the link below and click on „Going“ if you can make it. We hope you can make it, for Lasah.

https://www.facebook.com/events/122330998469776

You can also support Their Turn in their amazing work > https://theirturn.net/

Could you please tweet to Hotels.com to demand they remove their page listing promoting elephant rides on Lasah. We have created the tweet at the link below, you simply need to click to tweet. If you’re wondering why Expedia is included, it’s because they own Hotels.com.

Once you have tweeted, please go to the page in question, scroll to the bottom of the article and rate it [1 star!]. Below is the link.

We have more updates which we will send out on Wednesday, October 11. And in the next one we will need more help from you, for Lasah. So please keep an eye out for the next update.

Thank you for all you’ve done so far.
