Welcome to your October enews
Since your last e-newsletter, the 2023 whaling season in Iceland has closed. I am saddened to tell you that 25 majestic fin whales fell victim to the harpoons. Of course that’s 25 too many, but it could have been so much worse. You helped to secure a temporary suspension of the hunts over the summer which saved approximately 120 whales, and we’re feeling hopeful that the end of Icelandic whaling is in sight. Years of campaigning has paid off and the majority of the Icelandic public now opposes whaling. Thank you once again for all your support!
For now, the future of the hunts remains uncertain, but I can promise you that we will do everything we can to prevent the ships from leaving the harbour in June 2024 for another hunt season – I will keep you updated. For the full story, please click on the link below.
Following the positive impact your efforts made in Iceland, I’m excited to share our plans to end pilot whale hunts in the Faroes. We both know that whales are intelligent beings crucial in our fight against the climate crisis, and we want to support Faroese communities to protect the intelligent beings who live around their islands. Watch the video below to find out more.

This is where you come in. You can help inspire the hearts and minds of people in the Faroe Islands by clicking the link below and sharing one word that sums up why you love and appreciate whales. You shifted public opinion in Iceland, let’s do the same in the Faroes! Stay tuned to see what we create with your words.
Thank you so much for your continued support. Together, we will create a world where every whale and dolphin is safe and free.

Porpoise protection
Iconic species like blue whales and humpback whales sometimes steal the limelight, so we’ve been speaking up on behalf of dolphins, porpoises, and smaller whales so they get the protection they need.

Sustainable style
We’ve partnered with Bracenet to create a limited-edition bracelet crafted from old fishing nets. With each purchase, you’ll be removing ghost nets from the ocean, and €2 will be donated towards our conservation work.

Dolphin tragedy
I’m saddened to report that more than 100 endangered pink river dolphins have died in the Amazon, raising concerns that rising global temperatures could place them in jeopardy as severe drought affects the depth of the river.

Cash prizes
Play for a porpoise! Win up to £10,000 in the WDC Weekly Lottery while supporting the protection of whales and dolphins all over the world. Over 18s and UK only.

Hazardous decision
Permission has been granted for the development of the UK’s biggest untapped oilfield off Shetland posing a significant threat to whales and dolphins in the area.

Eco-friendly feast
Make your lunch whilst making a difference with this ocean-inspired bag. Crafted from a single, recycled plastic bottle, it insulates and has a secure zip closure, and a convenient fold-flat design.

Devastating decline
A recent report has revealed that the UK’s wildlife is in trouble, with one in six of the 10,000 species studied at risk of being lost from Great Britain.
