PETA told venues around the U.S. that UniverSoul Circus has a long history of working with animal abusers who have long histories of violating the federal Animal Welfare Act. Fulton County Animal Services in Georgia just inspected the circus in February and found heartbreaking conditions for the animals, including these:

  • Elephants Betty and Bo, exhibited by Larry Carden, didn’t have any water and only minimal hay, and they were forced to stand on hard concrete, even though their feet were bruised.
  • During a performance, an animal control officer saw a „wet spot“ on Bo’s left hind ankle, which appeared to bea wound that had been covered with a gray powder called „Wonder Dust.“PETA got video footage of the injury, which appeared to be a draining abscess.

  • One camel named Larry hada swollen ankle that needed to be drained and treated, and another named Emmet had a 3-inch-long cut on his leg.
  • Several horses hadchipped, cracked hooves that were „in bad shape.“

A trainer hired by UniverSoul Circus holds a bullhook—a sharp weapon resembling a fireplace poker—in plain sight.Clearly, this is no life for animals. Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus recently announced that it’s closing this year, which is probably because the majority of people now realize that animal circuses SUCK. There’s never been a better time for venues to join the right side of history by opposing cruelty to animals and banning animal acts.

The performers wouldn’t lose their jobs—UniverSoul Circus is actually amazing without animals. Its human acts are top-shelf, and forcing tormented and abused animals to perform only brings the circus down. Look at Cirque du Soleil, which uses only willing human performers: People love that circus!

Tell venues still planning to host this cruel circus to consider these facts carefully and at least require that the scheduled performances don’t involve animals.
